Gallery > Charcoals
Charcoal has many unique qualities due to the unpredictable and atmospheric nature of the medium. I love to start from a point of ‘unknowing’, putting down a ground of charcoal that covers the entire paper and I then ‘dive in’ and start adding and subtracting marks as the drawing builds. This process can continue for some time until there suddenly comes a point where the drawing seems to tell me it's finished, and, when that happens, that’s it, I stop!
